Are Nagging Injuries And Pain Stopping You From Doing The Things You Love?

Chances are, if you are reading this, that you’re struggling with pain or an injury that is holding you back from doing something you love – maybe painful arthritis is keeping you from playing with your grandkids. Or maybe, like Gloria, an elbow injury is stopping you from enjoying gardening. Maybe low back pain is making your workday and daily commute tortuous, and forget about giving your kids piggyback rides! Or you could be struggling to recover from major surgery and return to your favorite sports, like Jeremy. Whatever it is, rest assured that we’ve been able to help many patients who are just where you are now.

Has your doctor told you to ‘rest’, and maybe given you some muscle relaxers or pain meds, but no matter how much you rest, the pain comes back once you start moving around and/or stop taking the pills? Or have you been told that surgery is your only option? You may have even tried physical therapy before, only to be given little one-on-one attention or treatment by an actual PT, and rushed through a cookie-cutter program of exercises at each appointment that you could have done on your own at home, plus passive treatments like heat, ice, or stim.

Sometimes, rest alone just isn’t enough, and drugs can only treat the symptom, not the cause of your pain – besides, you don’t want to be dependent on taking drugs for your pain anyway!  Surgery is often presented as the best or only option to ‘fix’ a musculoskeletal problem, as if it’s as simple to repair a body as it is a car. But the human body is far more complex than any man-made machine. Unfortunately, surgery does not offer guaranteed results and comes with many risks and expenses; it can even sometimes make a problem worse.

If you relate to any of the above scenarios:

You Are Not Alone

Listen to what some people who were in your situation have to say about the care and healing they experienced at PhysioWorks:

As a professional athlete I understand that your body is an investment, and you have to protect that investment. As a result of three knee surgeries and an Achilles repair, I had several imbalance issues as well as knee pain when I competed on the basketball court. I saw Andrew at Physio Works and received excellent care. He was able to assess my body’s imbalances using innovative diagnostic techniques, and he created a program that has lead me to see significant improvement.

I’ve been to Andrew 4x in 5 months and each time he observes me and then prescribes new exercises for me to do at home. The meetings are over an hour and he is very patient and engaged. It is not like any pt I have been to in the past. Most of the work you do at home, so there are not a lot of appointments. I’ve been doing my exercises regularly and my pain has receded and I’m back to running. Andrew not only correctly diagnosed the problem, he takes the time to explain exactly what is going on. I’ve worked on my running form and with my exercises, I’m a better, faster, more efficient runner than before I got injured.

A few weeks ago I ran my very first half marathon. A few weeks before that, I had tweaked my back doing something stupid and was afraid I was going to have to give up running the half. I emailed Andrew who encouraged me that all was not lost. With his expert advice, I not only ran the whole way, but ran faster than I was expecting!  I have since run a 10K and have 2 more half marathons and a 10-miler on the horizon.

Seriously, make an appointment with Andrew! For anything!
